Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe 1st Test Day 1 Review
Zimbabwe made the most of winning the toss, building their innings around Brendan Taylor’s composed century. His 131 contained 14 fours and four sixes and gave the visitors control after Afghanistan had kept the scoring rate in check during the morning session.
Brian Bennett then carried the innings through to stumps. The Zimbabwe captain was unbeaten on 71, while Wessly Madhevere added a brisk 29 not out to take the total beyond 300.
Afghanistan used six bowlers and found some late reward through Zia-ur-Rehman Akbar. Day 2 will depend on whether the hosts can remove the overnight pair before Zimbabwe turn a strong start into a decisive first-innings score.
